Drywall + Drywall = More Drywall
At last writing, we had finished hanging the drywall on the upper level ceilings and the guest bedroom walls. As of today, I have a home of completed drywall. We had hired a guy after we received a recommendation from Facebook, named Thomas Forcier, to do the finishing. While Scott and I can certainly do the labor intensive hanging of the drywall, we can't do the precise finishing work. It really is an art form, especially when you are asking for smooth ceilings. Thomas called us today to let us know he would be finished by the end of the day. He really did a beautiful job and I'd be happy to recommend him to anyone that asks.
June was an extremely busy month for us. Every weekend was booked. We had dance recitals, Emily's 10th birthday party, a Cedar Point work trip, and spent a week in Corolla, NC on a wonderful family vacation. Because of that, the drywall has taken us about 1 1/2 months. It's hard to move fast when you only have Saturday and Sundays to work with a 2 hour round trip drive factored in but we did it! To date, this feels like the biggest accomplishment yet. It's hard work with immediate rewards. If you ever want to feel like you are capable of anything, hang a house full of drywall!

When hanging drywall, it is imperative that you have the right tools for the job. This $120 drywall lift we picked up from Menards made hanging sheets on the ceiling a breeze. And it works for hanging sheets on the wall as well.
But if it comes down to getting a lift or this baby right here, always choose this SENCO Drywall Screw Gun. It is the machine gun of screw guns. When we originally started hanging, we used our DEWALT power drills. Not only did it take an eternity to get in all those screws, it left our hands blistered and bruised. Scott's parents bought him this screw gun for Father's Day and our lives were changed forever. You can put in 200 screws in 30 seconds flat. Those numbers are not accurate but it's gotta be close. We appropriately nicknamed him The Beast.
We are very fortunate to have people willing to help us on this project. Scott's parents came home from Florida in May and would go over to the house almost every day to hang drywall. If it weren't for them, we'd probably still be hanging.

Even though hanging drywall was a rewarding project, I can't say that I'm sorry it is over. It is exhausting, dusty, dirty, and feels like it will never end. But you know what else is exhausting? Picking paint colors for an entire home at the same time. Stay tuned.
